Siargao Island is a must-visit when in the Philippines. Siargao is a tear-drop shaped island within the Philippine Sea situated 800 kilometers southeast of Manila within the province of Surigao del Norte. The coastline is marked by a succession of reefs, small points, and white sandy beaches. it also boasts the best waves that surfers from all over the world visit to challenge. This makes it a perfect destination for surfing and island-hopping as well.
Siargao Island is quickly becoming the new much-loved hotspot in the Philippines. Fortunately, unlike the famous white sand beach-Boracay and the limestone cliff formations of Palawan, it is still off the main tourist radar. If you’re looking for a truly unique island where you can enjoy beautiful pristine beaches away from the tourist crowd, while at the same time having fun at beach parties and living the island life, make sure to include Siargao Island to your Philippines itinerary.
The Island is a great destination for people of all ages and you will find it incredibly interesting and enticing. With that in mind, it’s important to know how you can reach Siargao Island, and here you have some great tips on how you can achieve that.
Cebu to Siargao
A good idea to reach Siargao is via Cebu. This is the simplest thing you can do because you can go from the Mactan Cebu International Airport directly to the Sayak Airport in Siargao. There are multiple airlines like Cebu Pacific- Tigerair or Philippine Airlines that will provide this type of service, so give them a try.
Surigao City to Siargao
Surigao City is the capital of Surigao Del Norte and it’s a great point to visit Siargao especially if you are coming from Manila. Both airlines specific above will offer daily flights from Manila to Surigao, so try to keep that in mind.
The way you access them is you have to take a multicab to the port where the RoRo ferry or trigger boats can take you to the Dapa Port in the Siargao Dock. There are daily trips here, although keep in mind that they leave from 5.30 AM until noon.
There are two choices for the ferry the fast boats and the slower boats. Fast Boats is either a multi-level steel vessel of a single-level large trigger boat. Duration time would be four hours, the fare would be around Php 280-350.
From Dapa Port you can go to General Luna – take note that there are 30 minutes driving from General Luna around 20 kilometers. Some are ok with walking from the port to the tricycle terminal as that will still work for them. It’s all a matter of what you find more comfortable here, but the results can be very impressive and interesting either way, so consider that if possible.
Manila to Siargao
Siargao island has its own airport as we mentioned above, but only Cebu Pacific and Skyjet are going directly to Manila. If you want to come here from Manila, the airplane option is by far the right option, you just have to make the most out of it for the best results and experience.
You will have to pay around P150 for every person if you want to go from the airport to General Luna. That’s up to you, but it can be a good idea to try and negotiate prices a bit if you can. Thankfully, going from Manila to Siargao is one of the simplest ways to reach the island and it’s certainly worth your time and effort. It will need a bit of trial and error as you try to assess and find the best approach here, but the results themselves clearly show there’s a lot of value to be had with the entire process.
As you can see, reaching Siargao is not that hard if you have the right entry points. Ideally, you want to go from Surigao City, Cebu or Manila to reach Siargao properly. It all comes down to finding the right flights and making sure that you also use the tricycle systems to go onward to the next destination. It will be well worth your time, so take that into account and you will be heavily impressed with the results.
