For intimate and frequent marine turtle encounters one should head over to Apo Island, Dumaguete for one trip, or ideally for one or two nights. This tiny Apo island just off the coast is so known worldwide due to its amazing coral gardens and abundant fish, not to forget the turtles which are everywhere in Apo Island. Many destinations within the Philippines are famous for whale shark encounters but our personal favorite whale shark snorkeling spot is in Puerto Princesa. It’s ethical and isn’t overly commercialized.

If you’re keen on shipwrecks, vivid corals and stunning fishes then head over to Coron. Matinloc Island in El Nido and Balicasag Island in Bohol also are top snorkeling locations.

Another thriving water-based activity within the Philippines is diving and fortunately enough spotting Nemos and Dorys are often enjoyed year-round. Wonderful for professionals likewise as beginners, the deep waters abound with flourishing sea life. Thresher sharks, hammerhead sharks, giant mantas and sunken WWII shipwrecks are yours for the viewing.
